Spiritual Counselling and Therapy

Many of us no longer live in supportive communities bound together by religious faiths and beliefs. Often most of us live in fragmented societies which can lead us to feel alienated from our family, surroundings and each other. Our world horizons have expanded, the cities where many of us live are large and impersonal.

In seeking spiritual counselling the client can take their problems to a safe place where they will feel they are being listened to and where their thoughts and feelings are regarded as important.

We are often trying to meet the challenges of modern social pressures and demands which we attempt to deal with often at the cost to our inner world.  Spiritual counselling looks at enabling the client to work towards living in a more peaceful, resourceful and personally fulfilling way.

Spiritual counselling can be defined in many ways, the following are some of the ways in which it is believed it can help people to resolve problems or help people live their lives in a more insightful, rewarding way: -

  • To identify and clarify what is important to the client in their lives.
  • To help the client to get in touch with their inner resources
  • To help the client with the exploration of feelings, thoughts and meanings that are important and particular to them
  • By offering the client support at times of crises
  • By offering the client support during development and transitional periods
  • To help the client to work through ‘stuck’ issues – this may involve integrating childhood experiences
  • To reach a resolution of problems
